23rd April 2009

A team of scientists from the University of Aberdeen are interested in recruiting volunteers for a study into the effects of dark chocolate on heart disease.

The team want to recruit 40 volunteers to consume either dark chocolate, milk chocolate or white chocolate in order to assess the impact of flavonoids on the disease. Dr Baukje de Roos, the study's leader, said: "Our study will help us understand how these flavonoids may benefit blood platelets and, in turn, help protect against cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke."
