10% drug price cut urged

The government wants to cut the prices the health service pays for prescription medication by 10%, reports the Financial Times.

It wants to make a deal with the pharmaceutical industry by mid-2008. Alan Johnson told the Financial Times that "he planned to generate substantial savings in the drugs budget during talks to be completed by June" as part of the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme.
