150 NHS staff attacked every day

Information released by the NHS Security Management Service has shown that over 150 health service staff are assaulted every day.

In 2008/09, 54,758 NHS staff said they were assaulted and 941 criminal sanctions occurred as a result. Mental health staff suffered the highest proportion of attacks, with 70% of the assaults and 38,958 attacks. Ambulance workers reported the fewest attacks, with only 1,240 across the UK.
