2nd place goes to Marie in N Ireland RCN Healthcare Assistant of the Year23rd June 2008
Marie Craig from Bethany Care Home in Belfast, part of Four Seasons Health Care, has been named runner-up in this prestigious event.
She has been employed as a level 3 Healthcare Assistant at Bethany Care Home since 1999 and is an excellent staff member who is dedicated to her role and who provides high standards and willingness to go beyond the call of duty, according to her home manager, Linda Graham.
Marie has developed her role and knowledge through continuing training and development, gaining NVQ levels II & III through Four Seasons in-house training programme, together with a certificate in the handling of medication. She was the first Healthcare Assistant in Northern Ireland to attain the NVQ Assessor Award and has to date mentored and assessed 4 candidates – all of whom successfully achieved NVQ level II.
Bethany Care Home participated in an Essence of Care Programme on pressure area care – this lead to the identification of a lack of information for relatives of residents on the prevention of pressure damage. Marie undertook the drafting of a leaflet to meet this need and this has been published and distributed throughout Four Seasons 350 care homes across the UK, helping staff to develop their communication skills with relatives and to keep relatives informed about the standards of care at the home.
