6% of big ticket spend with private sector

4th November 2010

Analysis by HSJ has suggested that some 6% of big ticket spending in the NHS is with the private sector.

With public sector organisations now required to publish all large items of spending online, and the threshold set at £25,000 for the NHS, HSJ examined the September 2010 spending data from a sample of 40 NHS organisations, including primary care trusts, hospital trusts and ambulance trusts. Of the £1.2 billion spent - much of which passed between NHS organisations - more than £70m was on transactions with the private sector.
