67 jobs to go at hospital

5th December 2006

A hospital trust has announced 67 job cuts to help shave £12m from its budget.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust said it hopes to the job cuts can be made without redundancies. Of the posts identified, 53 are currently vacant, with a further 14 staff who will need to be redeployed.

Originally the trust had planned to lose around 90 jobs but has cut the number following a review.

A number of other measures have been ruled out because of their effect on patient care, although bed closures remain a possibility.

The trust runs a number of hospitals including the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General in Kendal.
