£80m allocated to care at home

10th March 2008

£80 million in funding for the elderly to be looked after at home has been announced by the government.

Health and Care Minister Ivan Lewis has allocated the money to help older people to have care in their own homes and receive support services close to where they live. Ivan Lewis said: "Extra care housing is about offering people a choice. Too often I hear of cases where a couple who have been together for over fifty years are forced apart because one requires care and has no choice but to enter residential or nursing care leaving their partner at home."
