Actor backs cancer campaign

27th February 2008

Hugh Grant has given his backing to a campaign led by Marie Curie after his mother was cared for at home by one of their nurses.

He said, "My own mother died of cancer and was cared for by Marie Curie nurses - she was allowed to die peacefully surrounded by her family after receiving the very best attention from those helping us to support her. Everyone should have that choice."

His remarks come after Marie Curie Cancer Care's warning about the lack of funding to help more terminally ill people die at home.

The charity says it would be able to extend the project called 'the delivering choice programme' over England if they receive £6m over the next three years.
