Admin support to be bought in

The Department of Health has suggested that commissioning consortia should outsource many of the responsibilities inherited from primary care trusts.

Commissioning lead Dame Barbara Hakin has activities such as equality, diversity and patient and public involvement work were suitable for outsourcing to organisations that specialised in such work. She said PCTs had not been as successful as they could have been because they had tended not to take advantage of such commissioning support that she felt could have turned them into "highly professional organisations".
