A&E closure plans

22nd June 2012

Plans to close four of the nine accident and emergency departments in the area in the north-west London area have been proposed by health managers.

The proposal could see the closure of A&Es at Charing Cross, Ealing, Hammersmith and Central Middlesex hospitals in a move health chiefs claim will save lives, though critics say it will mean patients having to travel further to get treatment. The aim is to create new “super” units at other hospitals in the area, with more consultants and bigger teams working in shifts 24 hours a day.
