Alzheimer's link to cold sore virus

Experts say evidence is building that shows the cold sore virus may be linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

Scientists at Manchester University have found through laboratory tests that brains infected with the herpes simplex virus, HSV-1, saw a rise in a protein linked to Alzheimer’s. Writing in New Scientist magazine, they believe the discovery could pave the way for a vaccine that may help prevent the brain disorder, though such a breakthrough is still some distance away in the future.
