Alzheimer's Society launch £15m project

4th May 2011

The Alzheimer's Society has launched a £15 million research programme which experts hope will lead to new treatments within a decade.

The Drug Discovery programme will test treatments that are already licensed for other conditions with six drugs being fast-tracked for exploration. The drugs have additional actions that may be effective in treating the changes that occur in the brain in Alzheimer's disease and it is hoped that one of these treatments will have longer benefits than existing drugs and delay the onset of the condition.
