Ambulance trusts to become FTs

14th October 2010

Health secretary Andrew Lansley has put forward two ambulance service trusts for approval to become foundation trusts.

South East Coast Ambulance Service Trust and South Western Ambulance Service Trust have both been approved by Mr Lansley with both organisations hoping to achieve foundation status early in 2011. Ambulance trusts have been eligible to become foundations for several years but have struggled to meet some requirements, including some of their response time targets. However, all must become foundation trusts by 2013/14.
