Andy Burnham's adviser named

The new policy special adviser to health secretary Andy Burnham is likely to be appointed with the next two weeks.

It is understood that he is Kieran Brett, who was an adviser to former Prime Minister Tony Blair on home affairs issues. More recently, Mr Brett has been working as a consultant to the NHS. In his new role for Mr Burnham, Mr Brett is expected to focus on developing policy including a white paper on rights, a prevention strategy, a maternity strategy and reform of social care.
