Appointments missed

27th June 2007

About 250,000 patients referred through Choose and Book – the Government electronic booking system - have missed out on hospital appointments they would otherwise have attended, according to an investigation.

Medical journal Pulse claims patients are 60% more likely to miss out on seeing a specialist under the Choose and Book system than with conventional referrals. Under Choose and Book, GPs help patients pick the hospital they want to attend but it is normally up to the patients themselves to phone up and book the appointment slot.
