Assisted suicide bill published

21st January 2010

The Scottish Parliament is set to consider a bill aiming to give terminally ill people the right to die.

The End of Life Choices (Scotland) Bill has been drawn up by Independent MSP Margo MacDonald, who has Parkinson’s disease, and aims to make it legal for someone to seek help to end their life. Helping someone take their own life is illegal in Scotland but the MSP wants terminally ill people to be able to ask willing doctors to help them die at a time of their choosing.
