Asthma A&E trips 'avoidable'

29th September 2010

The charity Asthma UK Scotland has said that three quarters of hospital admissions due to asthma would be avoidable if the condition was managed properly.

It has published figures which showed 6,000 people go to accident and emergency each year after suffering an asthma attack at a cost to the NHS of £100m. However, the charity, which has published a new guide for people with asthma, said new approaches were urgently needed and it has urged people with asthma to follow guidelines on proper care.
