Baby badly sunburnt on Brighton beach

26th May 2010

A five-month old baby was taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton after being badly sunburnt on Brighton beach.

Burns specialists said 40% of the baby's skin was burnt. NHS Brighton and Hove health promotion specialist Carolyn Syverson said: "Babies and young children are particularly at risk of sunburn and heatstroke. Very young children should be kept in the shade; older children, when out in the sun, should wear protective clothing including a hat, have high factor sun cream regularly applied and drink lots of fluids to stay safe and well."
