Baby dies at maternity unit
7th March 2011NHS Greater Glasgow has confirmed that a baby died and nine other children are ill at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital after they contracted an infection.
The children, one of whom is in an isolation unit, were found to have the blood infection serratia marcescens. Lead infection control consultant, Dr Craig Williams, said: "The eight babies who are colonised are being nursed together as a cohort in one part of the neonatal unit totally separately from other patients. We are investigating the cases at the PRM to establish if there is any link between the cases."
