Better bowel cancer care needed30th October 2009
An audit led by the NHS Information Centre suggests there are still gaps in bowel cancer surgery care in England and Wales.
The review of 41,000 cases from 2006 to 2008 showed that slightly more than 50% of patients received support from specialist nurses despite NHS recommendations that all cancer patients should get it and 25% of patients were not getting access to specialist scans to check the progress of their disease. However, figures also showed that post-surgery death rates were improving.
