Blackpool go live with Alert19th November 2010
The first NHS trust in the country has gone live with an electronic patient record system from Alert Life Sciences.
Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation, which signed a deal with the Portuguese company last November, has now gone live with its Emergency Department Information System across its A&E department.
The system provides a fully-integrated clinical record, including the use of orders and results, eprescribing and clinical documentation functionality.
It is being used by the 200 people who work in the department and a further 250 who need access the information.
The trust’s IM&T director Philip Graham said that it was a significant leap forward for the organisation and the system went live without any major problems.
Trust chief executive Aidan Kehoe said: "This is an exciting development for the trust and we are sure the new system will help us use the IT that is now available to provide better, safer care for our patients.
"It will give our staff access to constantly updated information wherever the patient is in the hospital and clinical staff will no longer have to search for notes as they will have all the details at hand, including any relevant medical history and test results.
"This will ensure we have a safer service, carry out fewer duplicate investigations and reduce the number of avoidable admissions to hospital."
Alert UK said the fact the go-live was achieved within one year from contract was a "testament to the commitment from both the trust and Alert to work as one team with a common goal".
