Bristol hospital to specialise in obesity

21st September 2009

Bristol's Southmead Hospital is to gain the status of a super-regional centre for obesity, joining nine other hospitals around the UK which will specialise in weight-loss surgery.

The hospital has been allocated £1 million in order to boost the number of weight-loss surgeries from 100 to over 300 per year. "Over the next few years we are going to see a lot more patients across the South West benefiting from weight loss surgery," said surgeon Justin Morgan.
