Bronchiolitis awareness campaign

26th October 2009

A charity has been set up by the parents of a boy who nearly died from the lung condition bronchiolitis after he was sent home from hospital.

Charlie Calcott, who was eight days old, was sent home from Weston hospital after his symptoms were dismissed as a cold.  His mother took him back to hospital after he had trouble breathing, when he was put into intensive care. Hospitals across the UK will be sent a leaflet which explains the symptoms of bronchiolitis.

Bronchiolitis can be a bit more serious than many parents realise. If you've got children, you really need to know the difference between the sound coughs caused by different issues sound like.

I don't know what become of the charity mentioned, but this site has some useful info on how to identify whether it's just a cold of something potentially more serious: http://www.morethanacold.co.uk
