BUPA signs new contact

Private health care provider BUPA is reported to have signed the first of the second wave of contracts for independent surgical treatment centres (ISTCs) for NHS patients. It is part of providing evidence of the government's continued commitment to use the private sector to treat NHS patients.

Cheshire and Merseyside are the areas covered by the scheme and will see patients treated in Bupa’s own hospitals, as well as three operated by Classic hospitals, and one run by BMI Healthcare. There are 13 other contracts for second wave ISTCs are under negotiation.
