Busiest Christmas ever for NHS Direct

The NHS direct helpline had its busiest ever festive period.

More than 850,000 people accessed NHS Direct’s telephone and online services over Christmas and New Year. Performance statistics show that NHS Direct dealt with more than 330,000 telephone calls between 19 December and 3 January and logged more than 520,000 online visits for advice and guidance. Calls peaked on Monday, 28 December with 30,700 calls answered, followed by 27 December with 29,700, compared to a daily average in December of 16,700 calls.
