C diff causes 'eight more deaths'

In July 2008, eight more deaths where Clostridium difficile "contributed" were confirmed in hospitals managed by the Northern Trust.

Over 60 deaths have been associated with C diff since the beginning of 2008, but the number of cases has reduced - by four - since June. "There is considerably less transmission of the infection within Trust hospitals," said the trust's medical director Dr Peter Flanagan.
