C diff closes cancer ward

19th April 2012

The discovery of Clostridium difficile at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has led to the closure of a cancer ward.

Three cases of C diff have been found and the patients involved are now being treated in isolation with the wards closed to new admissions. NHS Highland said the risk to healthy patients, visitors and staff were minimal and that frequency of cleaning in the hospital will be increased as part of efforts to prevent further cases. In February another was closed temporarily after a patient was affected by C diff.
