Call for rise in legal age to buy alcohol to 21

19th March 2009

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Primary Care and Public Health has called for the government to impose new legislation on alcohol and fast food.

The group of MPs said improvements needed to be made to help people look after their health and it was the government's responsibility to ensure this happened. They suggested that local authorities should be able to limit the number of fast food shops locally and the government should consider increasing the age at which a person can purchase alcohol from 18 to 21.
