Call to community nurses

21st September 2006

The Director of the Queen’s Nursing Institute, Rosemary Cook, said that Community Nurses should be actively involved in commissioning health services, not just ‘shout from the sidelines’.

The briefing on Social Enterprise reflects the government’s White Paper, Our health, Our Care, Our Say, identifying social enterprise as a key plank of reform in primary healthcare.

“We have had an enormous number of requests from nurses for information on social enterprise? said Ms Cook. “We believe it is vitally important for nurses in primary care to understand what social enterprise is about, so they can make informed decisions. Although only a minority of nurses are likely to be involved in setting up a social enterprise, many more may find themselves working for one in future.?
