6th January 2009

Scotland's telephone helpline NHS 24 has reported receiving a call "every two seconds" over peak times over the Christmas period.

Dr George Crooks, medical director for NHS 24, said they had taken 37,590 calls over the four day Christmas period and 39,331 calls over the four day holiday period at New Year. He added that many calls were received from people who reported "flu-like symptoms".
