Men who put on over two stone were found to have 50% more risk of developing cancer of the oesophagus and increased the risk of getting thyroid cancer by one third. Women increased their danger of developing cancer of the womb lining and gall bladder by 59%. The researchers looked at nearly 300,000 cases of twenty varieties of cancer.
