Cancer patient sues after test error

4th August 2008

A patient has started legal proceedings against Carmarthenshire NHS Trust (now replaced by Hywel Dda NHS Trust) after it wrongly informed him that he did not have prostate cancer.

Test errors could be responsible for "up to 70" other men having been given incorrect test results. Trust medical director Dr Alan Axford said: "The care and wellbeing of patients is of utmost importance to our trust. Every patient affected by the small number of reporting inaccuracies identified earlier this year has now been directly contacted by a clinician or GP and the vast majority have been found to be unaffected."
