Cancer risk for women drinkers

25th March 2008

The Department of Health has said that female drinkers who consume more than the recommended amount have a 50% increased risk of breast cancer.

The government has developed an advertising campaign costing £10 million in order to target women who might not know how much they drink. Public Health Minister Dawn Primarolo said: "After the campaign no-one will be in any doubt as to how many units they're drinking and the impact that can have on their health."
