Cancer screening saves lives

29th November 2007

The Daily Mail reports that research by a NHS Trust has shown that screening patients for bowel cancer reduces emergency hospital admissions for the condition by 50%.

According to information from the Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, screenings are also effective in reducing death rates. One in 20 Britons will develop bowel cancer and it causes over 16,000 deaths per year. The health service is expected to introduce screening for people between the ages of 60 to 69 by 2009 in the UK.
