Caring for young and old can 'damage' families

30th November 2012

A survey by the charity Carers UK has found that the pressure of looking after children while caring for elderly relatives is taking its toll on all aspects of family life.

The study of 1,000 carers showed that a third of so-called “sandwich carers” had to give up work, while two-thirds said that their marriages had been damaged. Carers UK has called upon the care services and employers to support the 2.4 million families who find themselves in this situation.
