Chief exec of NHS Direct to step down

21st December 2012

NHS Direct chief executive Nick Chapman has announced that he will step down next July once the decommissioning of the 0845 service has been completed.

He joined the organisation in 2009 but more recently has overseen a turbulent period for NHS Direct with the replacement of the 0845 number with the non-emergency NHS 111 telephone number. Finance and performance director Trevor Smith will replace Mr Chapman in a role that will carry the title managing director rather than chief executive.
