Children at London nursery treated for TB

15th October 2008

The Health Protection Agency has confirmed that 33 children are being treated for tuberculosis at a London nursery school.

Students and staff were screened after an adult linked to the Knightsbridge Kindergarten in Eaton Square was diagnosed with the disease in July. The HPA said that seven children have an active infection and are undergoing a six-month course of antibiotics. Another 26 have TB bacteria in their bodies, but have no active infection. The adult who was diagnosed with the disease has since been treated and is no longer infectious.
