Children being placed on 'death pathway'

30th November 2012

The Liverpool Care Pathway is being used on severely ill children and disabled new born babies, it has been revealed.

The controversial end-of-life “pathway” was previously only thought to have been used for elderly and terminally-ill adult patients but it has now emerged that the practice of withdrawing food and fluid delivered by tube is being used on very young patients. The disclosure came from an unnamed doctor writing in the British Medical Journal, who described the end-of-life procedures used in the case of a baby born.
