Children in north-east England obese

11th January 2011

An investigation by the BBC has discovered that over 5,000 children living in the north-east of England are obese.

Bruce Jaffray, a surgeon based in Newscastle, stated that the issue was so severe that he  wanted to give patients gastric band surgery if everything else had failed. Mr Jaffray said: "People think it's about looking good or looking thinner - that's not what we want to offer. We're trying to stop people dying in their 30s."
