Concern over schizophrenia care levels

14th November 2012

Concerns have been raised over the care for people with schizophrenia and psychosis.

The Schizophrenia Commission, established by the mental health charity Rethink Mental Illness, described standards of care on some acute mental health wards as “shameful” and at a level that could be making patients worse rather than better. The Commission wants a radical overhaul of the care system and suggests that too much money is being spent on expensive secure care. It wants more invested in prevention and community support.
