Confidential patients' records dumped

29th January 2013

A bag filled with confidential information about patients was left on top of a shredder for four days at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

A hospital employee contacted the BBC to expose the hospital's information disposal failure. Dr Graham Shortland, medical director for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, said: "The health board places the utmost importance on patient confidentiality and takes its role as guardian of personal information very seriously. We have already taken action to secure the information and are investigating exactly why this has happened."
