Counterfeit condom warning

7th January 2013

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has said increasing numbers of illegal, fake condoms are being smuggled into the UK.

The MHRA warned the contraceptives did not protect users from STIs or prevent pregnancy, and were often found for sale on market stalls and in local shops. Senior investigator Danny Lee-Frost said: "These products are made in the Far East for pennies and then sold over here for pounds. They will cut corners. They will cut costs. They will use cheaper ingredients and materials."
