Court order for cancer drug

9th September 2006

Bromley primary care trust have been ordered by a judge to reconsider their decision not to give the drug Tarceva to a lung cancer patient.

Mr Justice Ousele said that it was not legal for the NHS to refuse to fund the drug after clinical trials showed it was effective, even though it has not been approved for use by NICE. Linda Gordon is challenging the PCT’s decision not to fund treatment with the drug. Doctors have said that it would prolong her life by eight to 10 months.
