'Critical window' of opportunity for mental health

The mental health sector has been warned that it needs to take advantage of a “critical window” to be involved in the changes to the NHS.

The Department’s national clinical director for mental health Hugh Griffiths told managers at the NHS Confederation conference in Manchester that discussions were being held over how mental health will be involved in new elements of the proposed commissioning structure. The government’s new policy document does not specifically mention mental health but the conference heard there are talks over mental health clinical networks.
