Cuts will mean longer waiting lists

29th July 2010

Doctors across Northern Ireland have warned that lengthy waiting lists are set to return.

Their comments come as figures emerged that four of Northern Ireland’s health trusts paid out almost £50m for NHS patients to be treated privately in just one year revealing the level of reliance on the independent sector as a way of ensuring government waiting-list targets are met. BMA Northern Ireland has called for urgent action to address the issue as members revealed a growing number of their patients were facing lengthy waits for hospital treatment.
