Cyberknife machine available soon

30th December 2008

A robot radiotherapy machine to treat cancer is to be available in the UK for the first time.

The new piece of equipment, known as the Cyberknife, moves with a patient's breathing so tumours can be targeted with greater accuracy, meaning damage to healthy tissue is reduced. So far more than a dozen countries use the Cyberknife including France, which has three under clinical trial. In the UK the machine will be available at the private Harley Street Clinic in London from February.
