Darzi review 'will cost £550 million'

8th August 2008

Some £550 million has been set aside by the government to pay for changes planned under the Darzi review.

The figures were revealed by health minister Ann Keen in answer to a parliamentary question. She said that the Department of Health had put aside £150 million in 2009/10 and £400 million the following year to cover the new policy commitments. The money will fund 1,800 extra GPs and be used to implement various policies including faster drug approvals and a new health innovation fund.
