DH will not be lowering cervical screening age

23rd February 2009

The Department of Health has said that the age limit for its cervical screening programme will not be reduced.

The Sun has started a campaign to reduce the age limit in the light of Jade Goody's cervical cancer diagnosis. Professor Mike Richards, England’s clinical director for cancer, said: "If a woman under the age of 25 has symptoms of cervical cancer than she should go and see her GP and be referred to hospital."
