Diabetes set to rise 46%

11th June 2008

A report by the charity Diabetes UK suggests that more than four million people across the country will be suffering from the disease by 2025.

A rise in the numbers of overweight and obese people will be the main cause of a 46% increase in the population of people with diabetes. At present, some 2.3m people in the UK have the condition with a further 500,000 unaware that they are diabetic. The charity said that 80% of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight at the time.
