Digital x-rays roll out

10th October 2007

Traditional x-rays are to be replaced by new digital technology in Scotland following a pilot scheme in hospitals.

The new £3m equipment, which captures the x-ray onto computers in a similar way to a digital image, has been tested at hospitals in Glasgow, Dumfries and Galloway.  The new technique could save the NHS millions of pounds. Under the new system, rather than there being only one image available, the new digital x-ray means that copies can be viewed by doctors anywhere in the hospital, or even at other hospitals.
